The Ferocious Lover...
By Jimmy Meeks

I am convinced, after talking to hundreds, if not thousands, that one of the main reasons people reject the Christian faith is the failure of church-people to understand who the REAL GOD IS - and how He feels about the people on the earth.

I become more and more convinced of this as I share the gospel with others, especially police officers. They simply cannot imagine that the God in heaven who has given us His commands - commands that we repeatedly break - has any desire to be part of our lives. He is too perfect...we are too sinful.

I am going to change this article often, mostly by adding truths I have seen over the years. But suffice it for now to let me state emphatically that God WANTS YOU: that He has paid a high price to save your soul, and your sins are no obstacle to Him - unless you allow them to be...

Yes, you are sinful, very sinful. You have “screwed up...fouled up...messed up...” And you have done so in a thousand ways. You have failed in many ways and, yes, you are a “sinner.” But God has no desire to leave you in your sinful state...!

This is precisely why He sent His Son - His only Son - to bear your sins. Would you give your child to pay for the sins of the world? Of course not. Would you, compelled by love, die for the sins of a bin-Laden? No, you wouldn’t.

But God would - and did. Jesus was our sacrifice, our sin-bearer, our substitute. God, driven by love for you, “dumped” ALL of your sin upon His Son.

And it was not just because He loved you. God had an ulterior motive in the giving of His Son: HE WANTED TO INITIATE A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU!

That’s a bit extreme, is it not? Would you sacrifice your only child so you could have a relationship with people who don’t even want a relationship? Probably not.

But the CROSS is the message from God that He wants you: He covets a relationship with you: He wants to become part of your life.

He wants to go with you on patrol, respond with you to domestics, assist you in jailing the crooked, the child rapist, the spouse beater, the shoplifter: and even help you find, and cite, the speeding motorist!

Fellow officer; GOD IS MADLY IN LOVE WITH YOU. Yes, He is holy, and you are not: He is perfect, and you are sinful. But, Jesus has bore our sins and now made it possible for us to have a Permanent Partner, a Loyal Lover, a Constant Companion, a Faithful Friend.

Right now, wherever you are - your patrol car, roll call, or at home on your computer- ask Him to reveal Himself to you.

EVER FEEL LIKE GOD HAS GIVEN-UP ON YOU?
“...how can I give you up...How can I let you go...My heart is torn within me, and my compassion overflows.”
- Hosea 11:8

DO YOU NEED RESCUING?
I (Jimmy Meeks) remember a few years backs, around 11:30 on a Saturday night, my son Matthew called me from a friend’s house. “Dad, my battery is dead. Can you come help me?” He was 16 at the time, and it was his first vehicle, a red Ford Ranger...

I had forgot to tell him, however, that his vehicle, a 5-speed stick shift, only required a push start when the battery is dead.

When I got there I had him get in and put it in second gear while I pushed him. It started right up and off he drove...

On the way home I was overcome with a sense of joy. But I was puzzled as to why I was so instantly happy. Then it hit me: I was delighted that my son needed me, and that I was able to come to his aid...

And this is precisely why God chooses to come to your rescue - HE DELIGHTS IN YOU! In Psalms 18:19 David declares, “...He rescued me because he delighted in me.” That is, fellow disciple, why God comes to your rescue. It is not because you are good or deserving, but because you are His child, and it thrills His heart to come to your rescue!
