_Jimmy and Julie Meeks married in August of 1977. They have 5 daughters: Cara, Stephani, Rachel, Katelynn, and Lydia: a son, Matthew, a son-in-law, Russ, and a daughter-in-law, Heidi. And in March of 2011, Jimmy and Julie became grandparents for the first time.

Jimmy is a licensed and ordained minister, and has been since 1973.  Julie is also a licensed and ordained minister. Jimmy graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1985 with a B.A. in Religion, and in 1989 he graduated from Emmaus Road Ministry School. Jimmy served as pastor of a church for over 11 years.

While attending OBU, Jimmy joined the Shawnee Police Department and served there 5 years. In 1985 he moved to Texas, and was soon hired by a local police department and has been there ever since. Jimmy has served as a hostage negotiator, a police training officer, a school resource officer, and a detective. He is now back on the streets. He is a certified police instructor and has his Master's Certificate as a police officer. Jimmy is also a certified crime prevention specialist.

In May of 2009, Jimmy hosted a Church Safety Seminar. Since then, he has conducted about 75 such seminars, at which about 1100 churches have attended. He has also shared his women's safety presentation with over 3000 women.
