The Spiritual life is a Journey...

Picture
I don’t believe we have given the disciples of Jesus the true picture of what it means to walk with Jesus. We have bored them to death with meaningless church services, lifeless sermons, and dull songs. We have failed to tell the story about the ADVENTURE that is offered to believers in Jesus. Being good is not very appealing, at least not the way we present it.

In the Bible days people who walked with Jesus told of a heart that burned within. That doesn’t seem to be the case anymore for many of us. And that may also explain why 75 - 80% of kids who attend church, quit doing so when they graduate high school. Many Christians are bored. So much is promised in the Bible, yet they experience so little of it. In the words of one rock n roller, they want to “take a walk on the wild side.” Unfortunately, today’s state of Christendom doesn’t offer the “wild side.” So the great exodus carries on; people dropping out at high rates, bored and disillusioned. Like the woman in the hamburger commercial disgusted with her tiny sandwich, they cry, “Where’s the beef?”

David declared in the Psalms, “In Thy Presence is fullness of joy: at thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore.”  Fullness of joy...pleasures forevermore? Wow - that doesn’t sound boring or dull.

Let the spiritual journey begin! Learning to grow as a Christian is a privilege! But we will never experience the life God intended unless we learn how growth occurs, and what part we play in our growth. This section of the website is designed to help you see how this happens.

There are many ways by which we mature in Christ and become the person God destined us to be. But first, we must come to terms with just what God had in mind when He saved us. And just what was His plan? The Apostle Paul makes this clear in Romans 8:29...”God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son...”

This verse means that long before you were born: long before Jesus saved you, God had already formed a plan concerning you, as well as a plan for all of His other children. The plan was that your character would be transformed into the very image of Jesus Christ Himself: that you would learn to think like Jesus, talk like Jesus, and conduct your actions like Jesus. But, He did not want that to be something that becomes a terrible burden to you. So, He put some things in place that would make the goal attainable.  As C.S. Lewis once said, God’s intent all along was to populate the earth with a bunch of “little Christs.”

HE WANTS US TO BECOME LIKE JESUS. Primarily, our life is not about what we do for a living - cop, plumber, electrician, doctor, lawyer, or construction worker: we are to become like Jesus in thought, word, and deed. Thus the issue becomes not, “How do I make a living,” but “How am I LIVING?”

And just what would my life look like if it looked like the life of Jesus? What kind of person would I be...what would I think about...what would I say to others...? I think it would be so incredibly wild, even dangerous, marked by a constant state of expectancy: hope, power, laughter, boundless joy, excitement: LOVE: a love that is indescribable, passionate, looks out for the other guy, rejoices in the successes of others, eager to serve others.
